Easter 2011 Sunday 24th of April 2011

The main religion is the Greek Orthodoxy at 98%.
Here above are some Byzantines churches seen on the roads of Peloponnese and the Cyclades.

In Athens, it is easy to meet some popes (Priests)

On the road, we met many "ex-voto" (last picture below) : little church.
Gathering from the family of the rescues from the road accidents or homage from the family.

The most important Greek religious festive is Easter. the diet lasts 40 days, the last week is called the Holy Week, that means that  we are becoming vegetarian,
we eat only what Mother Earth is offering us, nothing from the animals.
On the Saturday night we go to the church and sing in chorus Christos Anesti (the Lord is Revived) at 11p.m to be in time with Greece (jet lag of + 1 hour).
The following day, this is the blast, an orgy of food !!! lamb is cooked and a lot of mezes !! (go and see the food part)
It is a tradition to give each other the "tchourek" ( Greek brioche , not as much good as the one from Vendée, says David) and to break the eggs (cooked) paint in red, green, blue.... at the starters, everybody is having fun by playing with the eggs (do the  tic-tic on the both sides) and say again Christos Anesti !
