Admission to the EEC
in 1981
The
Euro arrived in Greece in 2001, and in France in 2002. Here are the
Greek Euros, the 1 et 2 cents were very rare to get, they don't use them but
we managed to have some
and brought them back to France !
The Greek coin of 2 € is a
representation of Sparta (3rd century BC), It is Europe, a Greek
character, its name is our continent, abducted by Zeus, and metamorphosed into a
white bull.

For the
Olympic games, a coin of 2 Euros has been created, this is
a representation
of the discus thrower,

The Greek coin of 1 € represents a owl. This coin is the same as the very
old 4 drachms from Athens (V century BC)
.

The Greek coin of 50 cents. Eleuthérios Vénizelos (1864-1936), one of
the famous Greek politician, he had a very modern vision of the Greek State and
the freedom of the North Greece
and some islands of the Aegean Sea.

The Greek coin of 20 cents. Ioannis Capo d'Istria (1776-1831), Greek
politician from 1830 to 1831, was the first governor of Greece after the
Greek Independence war (1821-1827).

The Greek coin of
10 cents. Rigas Fereos-Velestinlis (1757-1798),
was a Greek character from the Greek philosophers, he had the idea of a Balkan
confederation free from the ottoman.

The Greek coin of
5 cents represents an oil tanker, the Greek navy.

2 cents represents a boat used during the Greek Independence war
(1821-1827).

The Greek coin of 1
cent represents an Athenian boat from the Athenian democracy - the biggest
one used for more than 200 years - (V century BC).

The BridgeRio-Antirio (May
2004)
The Rio-Antirio bridge, connecting
the Peloponnese region to mainland Greece, is seen under construction near
Patras.
It had just been finsihed in May 2004,
it will be helpful to
join Patras, Delphes.
The bridge is
expected to open to traffic in September 2004.
The Olympic
flame is scheduled to cross the bridge on August 8, five days before the opening
ceremony for the Olympic Games

Athens 2004 Olympic games : The
XXVIIIe games from the 13th to the 29th of August 2004

The king Oenochoes lost a
cart race by Pelops, he celebrated his victory by organizing some sport
games at Olympia. According to others sources, This is Heracles who created the
games.
There was a universal peace during the games, it lasted one month, all the war
and hostilities were stopped. The winners did not have money but a crowd of
white olive
tree: the laureate.
Created in 776 BC, they happened to 393 AC, they were forbidden under the Romans,
Emperor theodosius, who found them too pagan. the interval
was of 4 years between every games.
Thanks to Pierre de Coubertin, the games re-appeared in Athens in 1896, in 2004,
the games will be back on their native land.
In every souvenirs shops, we found the dolls and the official mascots of the
games Phivos and Athina (brother and sister). Those mascot's look like the same
dolls in the antic Greece,
their name came from the Greek mythology : Phoebus - nickname of Apollo - God of
the music and light, and Athena, goddess of the wisdom and protector of Athens.

public and 2.3 million for the 'Olympic family' of IOC officials, sponsors and
others.
